Covered Bridges in Western Massachusetts: Eunice Williams Covered Bridge

Covered Bridges in Western Massachusetts: Eunice Williams Covered Bridge

If you enjoy historic covered bridges, add the Eunice Williams Covered Bridge to your Western Massachusetts itinerary. Located in the town of Greenfield, the bridge offers a quiet, scenic stop that pairs well with a day of exploring Franklin County. The bridge crosses the Green River and is named for Eunice Williams, a local woman whose story is connected to the area’s colonial history. The current covered bridge dates to the nineteenth century and reflects the traditional timber construction used to protect wooden bridge components from weather. The Eunice Williams Covered Bridge is best appreciated as a short sightseeing stop rather than a major destination. Take time to look at the bridge’s wooden framing, surrounding fields, and river landscape. It can be especially appealing in autumn, when the hills and trees around the bridge add color to the view. Because the bridge is located on a public road, use care when stopping nearby. Pull completely off the roadway where permitted, watch for traffic, and avoid blocking the bridge or nearby driveways. Conditions and access can change with weather, construction, or seasonal road restrictions, so check local information before making a special trip. The bridge also makes a natural addition to a broader Greenfield outing. Visit Poet’s Seat Tower and Rocky Mountain Park, browse downtown shops, stop for coffee or lunch, or spend time along the Green River before or after your visit. If you are planning a covered-bridge tour, continue exploring other historic bridges in Franklin County and the surrounding hill towns. Location: Greenfield, MA, near the Green River
